With the summer now fully upon on us, it’s time to start thinking about the looks you want for your hair this summer. Fresh cuts, and refreshed colours are always popular this time of year, as we attend weddings, festivals, events and jet off on holiday – all the time wanting to look and feel our very best. From trying out a shorter cut, adding in hair extensions for a special occasion or giving a new colour a go – summer is the season to go for it with your hair. Below we’ve listed out some of the latest style, colour and hair trends we’ve spotted on the runway’s and from our favourite celeb’s, for summer 2017.

The cut

This summer, if your hair is short, it’s all about the just below the shoulder, choppy cut to freshen up your look. Think 70s shag cuts, and ‘cool girl just rolled out of bed and didn’t even try’, effortless looks.

Think Bardot-style sweeping fringes, that come down past your eyes, but with a middle parting. This look was seen on the Chloe and Acne catwalks, with both brands adding their own signature tones to the cut. For shorter, thinner hair with a bit of a natural wave through it, go for Chloe’s soft, relaxed cut which can flow into the natural movement of the hair. The gentleness of the cut will compliment the beachy, tousled style of summer hair and is perfect for formal events such as weddings or the races. Acne’s Bardot-style fringe stayed with the brand’s more blunt tones and was kept more angular and choppy.

The style

Braids are here to stay, and they’re definitely not just for the festival season. Thick chunky, wraparound braids and loose waves with micro braids running through at random, which we think is going to be everywhere this summer. Watch a YouTube tutorial for a thin fishtail braid, or how to create a thick chunky dutch braid that will be raised off your head, or why not come into the salon with a friend and have a creative styling/finishing session with one of our stylists. Watch out though, once you master this technique your friends will be queuing up for you to do their hair for every summer event you attend together.

The power-pony. Think Kim Kardashian slicked back hair, secured into a low pony with an invisible bobble or smart glossy ribbon. Not only is this look stunning for the office, it can take you from day to night without having to move a hair, literally. It’s also highly practical, keeping hair off your face in the heat.

The colour

From metallic greens, to glow in the dark and neon colours, summer is always the season people choose to try out that new look they’ve been dying for. If you’re looking for something slightly more low-key and lower maintenance, then it’s back to basics and time to balayage. Whether your natural colour is light or dark, you can choose a shade that will contrast with it to create a stunning ‘not done’ (but done) look. The best bit about balayage during the summer is that it is so low maintenance. The colour uses your natural colour, leaving your roots alone (unless you really want them dyed) so you know that whilst you’re adding heat to style your hair for all your summer events and products to make your hair look wow – you’re not damaging it further by dying it through the summer.
